80s return this afternoon

Record temperatures Friday

The big warm-up starts today, and you’ll notice it right away as temperatures climb to around 80 degrees this afternoon. With plenty of sunshine, it’s going to feel warm, bright, and a little more like early summer than spring.

But even today is just the beginning.

All eyes are on Friday, when temperatures surge even higher approaching 90 degrees in many spots. That puts us in position to break a long-standing record of 85 degrees, set back in 1950. So yes, we’re not just talking about a warm stretcwe’re talking about record-breaking heat to wrap up the workweek.

A weak cold front does slide in late Friday night, but it’s not bringing much with it. Moisture is very limited, so rain chances stay low. Far northern areas might catch a brief shower, but for most of us, it’ll be another dry pass with little to no impact.

Behind that front, the weekend brings a bit of a reset. Temperatures drop back into the 60s, giving us a cooler, more seasonable feel. The good news, it stays dry, so while it’s not as warm as Friday, it will still be comfortable for any outdoor plans.

So today kicks off the heat, Friday peaks it, and the weekend levels things back out.
