Motorcyclist killed in overnight Statesville crash

STATESVILLE, N.C. – The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist in Iredell County.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday night on Midway Road near Storm Lane in Statesville.

Troopers said 32-year-old Caleb Pender, operating a 2002 Honda CBR600 motorcycle, was traveling west on Midway Road when he drove off the road, hit a fence, and overturned.

Pender was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Speed and impairment are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, the highway patrol said.
