Levine Museum of the New South receives chocolate grant

CHARLOTTE,  NC- A Charlotte history museum is getting a sweet boost — and turning it into a free experience for kids this summer.
The Levine Museum of the New South has been awarded a $6300 grant from the American Heritage Chocolate Society, funded in part by the Mars Corporation, the company behind brands like Snickers and Pop-Tarts.
The money will fund a free chocolate summer camp in June open to kids ages seven through eleven.

Campers will get hands-on, rolling up their sleeves to grind chocolate on slate stones and even design their own candy wrappers.

Museum educators and historians will guide kids through the story of chocolate’s role in the American South including: culture, community, and history that isn’t always easy to unpack.
About forty spots are available across two June sessions, and organizers say tickets are going fast.

Good news though! The camp is completely free to the public.
The Levine Museum is also celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
