2 teens dead, 5 others hurt after fight in Winston-Salem park escalates

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Two teens are dead and five other teens are hurt after a shooting in a Winston-Salem park. Police say it began as a planned fight Monday morning between two teens. But, several people showed up and the brawl escalated to several of them firing shots. A 16-year-old and 17-year-old boy died. The others hurt range in age from 14 to 19-years-old, with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Police say some of those injured may have been involved in the shooting.

Winston-Salem Police Assistant Chief Jake Swaim says, “As far as suspects and victims, we have identified numerous people involved with this investigation. However, we are still determining their exact involvement, whether they’re suspect, victim, or witness.”

The park where the shooting happened is near a middle school, but investigators say no one was shot on school grounds.
