7th annual Reed Parlier Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament tees off in Mint Hill

MINT HILL, N.C. – One of the young men killed almost seven years ago in the deadly shooting at UNC Charlotte was remembered and honored on Monday. The annual Reed Parlier Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament teed off at Pine Lake Country Club in Mint Hill.

Parlier, a 19-year-old from Midland, and Riley Howell, died when a gunman opened fire on the school’s campus on April 30th, 2019.

Parlier’s mother, Julie, tells WCCB that the money raised from the tournament goes toward a scholarship in his name. She says, “It’s really important that we keep Reed’s name out there and that his legacy will continue through this scholarship and through this golf tournament.”

More than $1.5 million have been raised since the scholarship began. 14 students received scholarships this year. Reed’s mom says that number will continue to grow. WCCB News anchor Morgan Fogarty participated in this year’s tournament.
