CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Deputies seized drugs and firearms after conducting a traffic stop in Charlotte on Wednesday, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The traffic stop was initiated after a deputy saw the vehicle make an unsafe movement. The deputy detected marijuana inside and proceeded to search the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

In the search, deputies said they seized marijuana, a diamondback AR-15, a concealed handgun, and three magazines.

“This is a clear example of how proactive traffic enforcement helps keep our community safe,” said Sheriff Garry McFadden. “What began as a traffic stop resulted in dangerous weapons and drugs being removed from our streets. I commend our traffic and civil deputies for their professionalism, awareness and commitment to protecting Mecklenburg County.”

The driver was arrested and transported to the Mecklenburg County Arrest Processing Center.
