Ex-Chesterfield Co. Sheriff’s deputy now charged with eight counts in dog fighting investigation

CHESTERFIELD CO., S.C. – We’re learning more about a local deputy who’s been arrested and now charged in a dog fighting investigation. SLED tells WCCB that 27-year-old Shane Gaskins is charged with eight counts of animal fighting, ill treatment to animals, and criminal conspiracy.

Gaskins worked for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office. He was fired Tuesday after his arrest.

Three other men are also charged in this case. 34 dogs were seized with the help of Humane World for Animals. SLED says this is an active and ongoing investigation.
