Salisbury man charged with manslaughter after fatal stabbing

SALISBURY, N.C. – A man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection to a deadly stabbing in Rowan County, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

Around 9 p.m. Thursday, officers received a call about a disturbance at a home on Wiley Avenue in Salisbury.

Upon arrival, officers located 27-year-old Altereck Shields Jr. in the roadway with wounds to his chest and neck. Shields was declared dead at the scene.

According to police, Shields and 46-year-old Jerome Staples got in a verbal dispute at a nearby residence which led to a fight. The altercation involved a knife and both Shields and Staples were injured, police said.

Staples was arrested without incident. He was charged with voluntary manslaughter.
