Update: Vets say animals seized in Chesterfield Co. show signs of dog fighting
CHESTERFIELD CO., S.C. – An update on the animals seized one week ago in a dog fighting investigation that led to the arrest of a local sheriff’s deputy.
Humane World for Animals sent WCCB new photos of the dogs. They say about 25 percent of the dogs are heartworm positive. Most have fly strike and some have abscessed teeth, irritated paw pads, ears and eye discharge, and masses that will be biopsied.
Vets say the dogs with puncture wounds are consistent with dog fighting. They also have missing chunks of their lips and ears, and fractured teeth.
Ex-deputy Shane Gaskins is facing eight counts of animal cruelty. The Chesterfield County Sheriff fired him last week. Three other men are also charged in the case.
