DA: 2 officers who shot and killed man at convenience store were justified

GASTON CO., N.C. – The Gaston County District Attorney says two officers who shot and killed a suspect in Gastonia were legally justified.

The shooting happened at Jakob’s Food Mart in January. Two Gastonia Police officers were conducting an underage alcohol operation.

One of the officers says Derrick Manigault walked into the store with a gun while having an argument with another man and threatening to kill him.

The officer confronted Manigault as he held a gun, then fired at him as he ran away from the store. The second officer, who was outside, fired at Manigault when they say he raised the gun and would not lower it.
