Woman arrested in jury duty scam that targeted people in Rowan Co.

ROWAN CO., N.C. – A Georgia woman is accused of stealing money from people in Rowan County by claiming they missed jury duty, and faced arrest if they did not pay a $750 civil fee. 20-year-old Samya Kelly is charged with obtaining property by false pretenses and money laundering. Victims say they were told to send the money through platforms like PayPal or Apple Pay.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says this may be part of a larger operation.
