Gastonia Police release surveillance video of deadly encounter with officers

GASTONIA, N.C. – Gastonia Police have released surveillance video of a deadly encounter with officers. Last week, we reported the District Attorney said two officers who shot and killed a suspect were legally justified. The shooting happened at Jakob’s Food Mart in January.

Two Gastonia Police officers were conducting an underage alcohol operation, when one of the officers says Derrick Manigault walked into the store with a gun while having an argument with another man and threatening to kill him.

The officer confronted Manigault as he held a gun, then fired at him as he ran away from the store. The second officer, who was outside, fired at Manigualt when they say he raised the gun and would not lower it.
