Two 17-year-olds killed in fiery southwest Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two people died and another was seriously hurt after a car crash in southwest Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

It happened around 6:10 p.m. Wednesday on Westinghouse Boulevard near South Tryon Street.

Police said a Ford Mustang went into oncoming traffic on Westinghouse Boulevard and collided with a Chevrolet Camaro. 

The Mustang became fully engulfed in flames, and both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Adrian Melo-Escobar and 17-year-old Asletty Herrera-Ramirez.

The Chevrolet driver was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
