Two Chesterfield County women charged with lottery fraud

CHESTERFIELD, S.C. – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged two women with lottery fraud. Darlene Helms, 67, and Yoisha Merrell Chambers, 47, were both charged with intent to defraud, counterfeit game tickets on Thursday.

Helms attempted to pass approximately 369 scratch-off lottery tickets at a Pageland mini mart. She was employed at the store when Merrell Chambers redeemed the stolen tickets for cash prizes worth over $11,478, captured on video surveillance.

Helms and Merrell Chambers were booked into Chesterfield County Detention Center.
