York Co. Sheriff’s Office confirms recovery of missing person from Lake Wylie

The York County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Tuesday that they have recovered the body of a missing person who jumped off a boat in Lake Wylie. The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

YORK CO., S.C. – The York County Sheriff’s Office dive team will resume its search Tuesday morning for a missing person in Lake Wylie. The team suspended its water rescue around 10:30 Monday night due to unsafe diving conditions. They entered the water around 9pm, near Tega Cay, close to the Catawba Dam. Crews staged at the Ebenezer Park Boat Landing. Newport Fire is also assisting.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a person jumped off a boat and did not resurface.

We’re told the search area is about 30 feet deep. We’ll keep you posted as soon as any new information comes into our newsroom.
