Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools hosts annual “School Bus Roadeo”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – School bus drivers put their skills to the test on Thursday. CMS hosted the annual School Bus Roadeo Thursday in northwest Charlotte.

Some of the best bus drivers in our region navigated a road course with some challenges to test their safety skills. They were tested on things like parallel parking, making tight right turns and passing through narrow streets.

Bus driver Alexandria Martin says, “Looking at how close they are to the cones and stuff, it can be challenging when you’re on narrow roads. Especially for me, and Myers Park area. We drive a lot of Uptown, and being close to cars and to the streets, it narrows out, so I have daily challenges, I just have to be very mindful of it.”

Winners from Thursday’s event advance to the state competition being held on June 4th at the State Fair Grounds in Raleigh.
