SLED: Armed man shot, killed by officers in Fort Mill

An investigation is underway after an armed man was shot and killed by police while serving a warrant in Fort Mill, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

It happened Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex on Clydesdales Court. According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, agents were serving an Internet Crimes Against Children warrant for 74-year-old Yves Venne.

According to SLED, Venne was in the apartment armed with a metal tire iron and during the encounter, the officers shot him. Venne was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured from the incident.

SLED is leading the investigation into the shooting. This is the first officer-involved shooting for the Rock Hill Police Department in 2026.
