Building heat through the weekend

Sunday turns even hotter and likely ends up being the peak of the weekend heat. Expect mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs around 92 across the region. It’s the kind of heat that settles in and lingers through the afternoon, so if you’ve got outdoor plans like heading to the lake, golf course, or any kind of extended time outside, you’ll want to stay hydrated, and keep the sunscreen handy because the UV index will be running high.

As we head into Monday, the overall pattern starts to shift. We begin pulling in more moisture, which means humidity levels will noticeably increase and clouds will become more of a presence at times. Temperatures still push into the lower 90s, but the added moisture will help trigger scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms.  Any storm that does develop could bring brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and lightning. It’s the type of summer setup where things can stay quiet for hours and then quickly turn active later in the day. This pattern sticks around for much of next week.
