Statesville father arrested after welfare check on child uncovers cocaine, guns

A Statesville father was arrested after police followed up on a welfare check involving a child, according to the Statesville Police Department.

On May 28, officers responded to a home on Valley Street in Statesville after police said they received an anonymous tip about narcotics being inside and that a child may be in danger.

When investigators arrived, they said they observed an unsecured firearm and drug paraphernalia at the residence. They obtained a search warrant and seized multiple firearms, approximately 27.3 grams of cocaine, and various items of drug paraphernalia.

The child’s father, 23-year-old Dylan Truitt, was charged with exposing a child to a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, and child abuse.

More suspects are believed to be involved, police said. One of them, 34-year-old Carlos Giron, who was on probation for possession of cocaine and attempted possession of a firearm by a felon, was arrested on similar drug charges.

Truitt received a $75,000 secured bond, and Giron was issued a $10,000 bond.

The child was placed in the custody of the Iredell County Department of Human Services.
