Man thwarts attempted kidnapping in South Carolina

A South Carolina preacher and truck driver is being hailed a hero after thwarting a kidnapping.

Anthony Moore was driving through Aiken County when he spotted a young woman running toward his truck with her hands cuffed behind her back.

Moore says the woman told him she had been kidnapped by a man posing as a police officer. 

Investigators say the suspect forced her into his car before she managed to escape.

“If I was one minute earlier, they would’ve been still in that dirt road and I never would’ve saw them,” Moore said. “If I was one minute late, he would’ve caught her. So it was timing. That was nothing I could have timed. That had to have been God.”

Authorities later arrested 39-year-old Jonathan Willard on charges including kidnapping and impersonating law enforcement.

Moore, the truck driver, pastor, and an Army veteran, says he does not see himself as a hero. Just somebody who is in the right place at the right time.
