NC lawmakers call on Meck. Co. DA to launch criminal investigation into county workers involved in the Dominique Moody case

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Carolina lawmakers are calling on Mecklenburg County District Attorney Spencer Merriweather to conduct an immediate criminal investigation into county employees involved in the Dominique Moody case.

The six-year-old died in December, after being found living in feces and urine at a home in east Charlotte.

In a letter sent on Monday, lawmakers cited a state review that found four out of five reports involving Moody’s guardians met the definition of abuse or neglect, but were screened out without a full safety assessment.

Merriweather wrote in response to the call for a criminal investigation into county workers, in part, “We are reviewing available materials to determine what–if any–legally appropriate actions should follow. In the meantime, this office has active criminal prosecutions against three defendants for the murder of Dominique Moody.”
