Clear skies with rising temperatures Thursday

Humid air returns Friday

Skies stay mainly clear tonight with temperatures slipping into the mid-60s by daybreak.

Thursday brings the start of a warming trend as our brief break from the heat comes to an end. Expect plenty of sunshine from start to finish, with afternoon temperatures climbing back to around 90 degrees. Humidity levels will begin to increase, but it shouldn’t feel oppressive just yet.

By Friday, summer makes a strong comeback. Sunshine will be out, and temperatures will rise into the lower 90s during the afternoon. You’ll also notice the humidity ramping up, bringing back that classic Carolina summertime feel. As the day heats up, a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms could develop late in the afternoon and evening.

The hottest day of the stretch looks to be Saturday. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, and when you factor in the humidity, it will feel even hotter. Most of the day will feature a mix of sun and a few clouds. Drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and don’t forget the sunscreen. We will likely see Heat Advisories to be put into place late Friday. By Sunday the heat isn’t going anywhere. Expect another hot and humid day with a mix of sunshine and clouds. Afternoon temperatures will once again climb into the mid-90s, and when combined with the humidity, it’ll feel closer to 100 degrees at times. A few isolated thunderstorms may pop up during the late afternoon and evening, but many areas will stay dry.

The steamy pattern will continue through the weekend, so now is a good time to start preparing for the heat.
