Hot and humid air through the weekend

-Heat Advisory is in place starting Thursday at noon until 8pm tonight. They will likely issue this again Friday and Saturday.ย

It’s going to be another warm and quiet night across the Carolinas. Temperatures will only fall into the lower to middle 70s by sunrise, and with plenty of moisture in the air, it will still feel a bit muggy. Most areas will stay dry overnight with partly cloudy skies.

By Thursday, the heat really starts to crank up. We’re kicking off a stretch of some of the hottest weather we’ve seen so far this summer. High temperatures will climb into the upper 90s, and a few spots east of the mountains could even touch 100 degrees.ย

Even if the humidity eases just a little during the afternoon, it will still feel dangerously hot. Heat index values could climb to around 105 degrees.

Rain chances stay pretty limited through the holiday weekend. A few afternoon thunderstorms may bubble up over the mountains each day, and there’s a small chance one or two drift into the foothills or Piedmont before fading.

Looking ahead, we may finally see a small shift in the weather pattern by the end of the weekend. That could lead to a few more afternoon storms, but don’t expect much of a cooldown
