The former president of a Lincoln County nonprofit was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement charges, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevin Turner was the president of the nonprofit organization, L-Town Charities. According to the sheriff’s office, Turner used the charity’s bank card to make more than $400,000 in online gambling and to make other unauthorized purchases. Deputies said it had been going on for two years.
L-Town Charities provides opportunities for parents of children in dance and sports activities to raise money to offset the costs to allow their kids to participate in those activities.
Turner, 51, pleaded guilty to three counts of embezzlement of more than $100,000 on Tuesday, June 30. He was given an active sentence of 58 to 82 months in prison.
