Humid evening with severe weather expected Tuesday
Damaging wind gusts, hail and torrential rain likely
Tuesday‘s Severe Wx Threat
The region will squeeze in one more hot and humid summer day before a cold front finally pushes through. Afternoon highs will climb into the middle 90s, but with oppressive humidity, it’ll feel more like 100 to 105 degrees.
Storms are expected to begin developing during the afternoon before becoming more widespread through the evening hours. The greatest concern is between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, when a few thunderstorms could become strong to severe.
The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts capable of bringing down trees and causing isolated power outages. Torrential downpours could quickly reduce visibility and create, localized flash flooding. While the tornado threat remains relatively low, the atmosphere may support an isolated tornado.
By late Tuesday night, the cold front will sweep east across the Carolinas, allowing thunderstorms to gradually diminish from west to east overnight. Temperatures will fall into the upper 60s and lower 70s.
Wednesday looks fantastic by late July standards. Sunshine returns with highs around 90 degrees, but much lower humidity will make it feel comfortable. Dew points falling into the lower and middle 60s will provide some of the nicest air we’ve experienced in weeks.
Thursday continues the pleasant stretch with seasonable temperatures, lower humidity, and plenty of sunshine. Friday stays mostly dry as well, although a spotty afternoon shower or thunderstorm can’t be completely ruled out.
Looking ahead to the weekend, moisture slowly begins returning as a stalled boundary develops just to our south. That means scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will once again become part of the forecast Saturday into Sunday. Stay tuned!
