A few showers tonight with more severe potential Tuesday
Heat builds late week
This evening, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible across the region. Rain won’t be falling everywhere at once, but any storm that develops could produce a quick burst of heavy rain. Because the ground is already soaked, it won’t take much for water to collect on roads or trigger isolate flooding in the usual low-lying spots. Overnight, temperatures will only slip into the low 70s, and with all the leftover moisture, don’t be surprised to wake up to patches of fog and areas of reduced visibility Tuesday morning.
Once we get into Tuesday, the atmosphere becomes much more favorable for widespread showers and thunderstorms. While the morning may feature only a few light showers or drizzle, the afternoon tells a different story as heat and humidity help storms rapidly develop across the region. Tomorrow has the greatest potential for severe weather. Some storms may become strong enough to produce damaging wind gusts, lightning, and intense rainfall in a short amount of time. With streams running high and the soil unable to absorb much more water, flooding will remain one of our primary concerns wherever the heaviest rain sets up. Occasional gusts could reach 30 to 40 mph, making it feel blustery at times before any storms even arrive.
Looking farther ahead, the overall weather pattern begins to slowly improve during the second half of the week. Instead of widespread rain, we’ll transition to more typical summertime pop-up showers, with longer stretches of dry weather returning. As clouds begin to break, temperatures will rebound into the upper 80s and lower 90s.
