More scattered showers and storms into Thursday

After another warm and muggy day, we’ll keep a few showers and thunderstorms in the forecast tonight. Most neighborhoods will stay dry, but if you’re headed into the mountains, that’s where you’re most likely to run into heavier downpours. Temperatures won’t cool off much overnight, with lows settling into the lower 70s and plenty of humidity sticking around.

Thursday looks a little more active. Expect more showers and thunderstorms to pop up during the afternoon and evening, with some storms capable of producing torrential rain, gusty winds, and a few pockets of localized flooding. 

As we head towards the end of the week, our weather starts looking a lot more like a typical August pattern. The system that’s been helping spark widespread storms will move out, allowing for a better mix of sunshine and dry time between storms. High temperatures climb back into the upper 80s and lower 90s, and the humidity will once again become a big part of the weather story. While an afternoon thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, many hours of the day should stay rain-free.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday currently appears to have the best opportunity for showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances will be highest across the mountains, where storms could become fairly widespread, while communities around the Metro have a much lower chance of seeing rain. Sunday remains my pick day and a pool day staying sunny and mostly dry.
