CHARLOTTE, N.C. –August is usually Charlotte’s wettest month, and that’s welcome news as parts of the Carolinas continue to deal with drought.
NOAA’s latest outlook suggests conditions will gradually improve through the end of October, thanks in part to recent rainfall and the increase in typical summertime storms. Charlotte averages about 4.5 inches of rain in August.
While this hurricane season is expected to bring fewer tropical systems to the region, the combination of frequent afternoon thunderstorms and any tropical moisture that does arrive could still provide meaningful rainfall. Drought won’t disappear overnight, but the forecast is pointing toward steady improvement across much of the region heading into fall.
Many water restrictions remain in place even though improvements have been made.
