Scattered storms continuing through the evening

Tonight we remain under a level 1 for severe storms, with lingering storms into the overnight. Many areas will pick up an additional tenth of an inch with overnight low still humid in the 70s.

Friday will bring another round of isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.  Temperatures will also begin creeping back up, with highs reaching the middle 80s to around 90 degrees.

The weekend starts on another wet note. Saturday looks to be the more active day, with scattered thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall in a short period of time. By Sunday, we’ll finally begin turning the corner. High pressure will strengthen across the Southeast, helping to push the more active weather away and allowing for sunshine across the region. A pop-up shower or thunderstorm can’t be completely ruled out. Afternoon temperatures will climb back into the upper 80s and lower 90s, bringing back that classic August feel.

Looking ahead to next week, highs will return to the lower 90s across the Charlotte area, and with the humidity sticking around. Heat index values could climb close to 100 degrees on several days, so be prepared for another stretch of hot and muggy weather.

We’ll still carry a chance for a few afternoon thunderstorms each day, but coverage should be much lower than what we’ve seen this week.
