Isolates storm chance with growing heat Tuesday

By Tuesday, we’re right back into the summer heat. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the mid 90s, and with all that humidity in place, it could feel closer to 100 to 104 degrees during the hottest part of the day. Most of the day should stay dry, so you’ll likely get through the morning and early afternoon without much trouble.

The storm chances increase later in the day, especially around the mountains and foothills. Those storms will then have the potential to move farther east into the Piedmont. While we’re not expecting widespread severe weather, Tuesday does have a little more potential for stronger storms. The biggest concern would be damaging wind gusts, particularly across the northern foothills and Piedmont. At this point a few areas in this region are under a level 1 out of 5 for severe storms.

Tonight will offer a little relief from the afternoon heat, but it will still feel pretty muggy. Skies will stay partly cloudy, and a few leftover showers or thunderstorms could linger early this evening. Overnight temperatures will settle into the upper 60s to mid 70s.

The hot and humid pattern isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Highs will continue running above average, with many afternoons reaching the mid 90s. Factor in the humidity, and it could feel like 100 to 105 degrees.

We’ll also keep the daily summer storm chances around. Most days, we’re talking about isolated to scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms rather than an all-day washout. Any storm that pops up could bring a quick burst of heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds.
