Suspect identified, dies after being shot by Monroe Police
MONROE, N.C. – The suspect involved in the officer-involved shooting has died from his injuries at a Charlotte-area hospital.
He’s been identified as 33-year-old Francisco Javier Montes-Hernandez of Mexico. Officials say he was staying in the Monroe area.
As previously reported, officers were dispatched to 208 Alda Drive around 10 p.m. Sunday after a report of a suspicious person who was attempting to break into a home.
When the first officer arrived, he encountered a person matching the description in the street. During the encounter, the individual pointed a handgun at the officer and refused multiple commands to drop the weapon. The officer then shot Montes-Hernandez.
Officers immediately provided CPR and other lifesaving measures until medical personnel arrived.
Montes-Hernandez was transported to a Charlotte-area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is continuing to lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure in these circumstances.
The officer involved remains on administrative leave.
