Clear evening with rain chances increasing late week

Widespread rain Friday evening into Saturday

Tonight stays mostly clear and muggy, with overnight lows settling back into the low 70s.

Thursday temperatures will climb into the mid-90s. It’s going to feel even warmer once you factor in the humidity, with heat index values pushing to around 100 degrees or even a little higher.

We’ll start the day with a mix of sunshine and clouds, but the atmosphere will become unstable as we head toward the afternoon and evening. That means better chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few storms could linger into the overnight hours and into Friday morning.

Friday is shaping up to be the wettest day of the week. A front will move in from the north and run into all of that warm, humid air sitting across the region. That setup will give us a much better chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening. We could see several rounds of storms move through. Some of those downpours could be heavy, with lightning also possible. These will be slow moving storms that could drop a lot of rain in a short period of time. Minor flooding is possible.

Once that front moves through, the heat finally backs off. Temperatures will drop closer to where they should be for this time of year, with highs settling into the upper 80s. Friday night will also be more comfortable, with lows falling into the upper 60s.

As we head into the weekend, we’ll keep some rain chances around, but the overall pattern looks much quieter than Friday. Saturday has the better opportunity for showers and thunderstorms, while Sunday looks more isolated. Both days will feature highs in the upper 80s.

Monday we’ll have plenty of sunshine, temperatures staying in the upper 80s, and the humidity finally takes a break. Monday is shaping up to be the least humid day of the week, so while it will still be warm, it should feel noticeably more comfortable outside.
