Sweltering September Heat continues

Tonight, we’re not getting much of a break from the heat. Skies stay mostly clear, and it’s going to be a warm and muggy evening with temperatures only slowly falling overnight into the mid 70s.

Then we turn the heat up again Thursday! We’re talking plenty of sunshine with highs climbing back into the upper 90s, and with all that humidity sticking around, it’s going to feel even hotter with heat index values pushing into the triple digits. Tomorrow will be our best shot of beating a daily heat record.

Friday looks very similar. Lots of sunshine, another day in the upper 90s, and that feels-like temperature once again climbing into the triple digits.

Now, the holiday weekend!  We’ll still be hot, with temperatures in the mid-90s Saturday, but high pressure finally starts to weaken. That gives us a better chance for some afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

I wouldn’t cancel those Saturday plans! A pop-up shower or storm, mainly during the late afternoon and evening is expected, but widespread activity isn’t likely.

By Sunday, temperatures take a noticeable step down into the 80s, but the chance for showers and storms hangs around. The better opportunities look to be late Saturday into Sunday morning, with another round possible Sunday evening. This will be on the isolated side.

Labor Day, we could still see a few isolated showers or storms, but overall, I’m not expecting anything that should completely derail your cookout or fun plans! So there is some relief with highs returning to the mid 80s.
