Hot and mostly clear evening, with all eyes on weekend storms

Tonight: It stays warm and muggy tonight, with mostly clear skies and temperatures slowly dropping through the mid-70s. Heat Advisories will remain in effect for parts of the Sandhills, so if you’re down that way, the heat will still be a concern even after sunset.

Friday: Friday is another hot one. We’ll start with plenty of sunshine, and temperatures will quickly climb into the upper 90s. Add in the humidity, and it will feel even hotter with heat index values reaching into the triple digits during the afternoon. A few spots west of Charlotte could see an isolated shower or storm late Friday evening, but most of us stay dry.

Saturday: We finally start to see some changes. It will still be hot, but that strong area of high pressure begins to weaken. That opens the door for more showers and thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon and evening. You should still have time to enjoy your outdoor plans, but storms could pop up and briefly interrupt things. A few storms could also bring some heavy rain and gusty winds. At this point a level 2 out of 5 is in place from SPC. I’m not expecting this cold front to behave. Stay weather wise!

Sunday: Temperatures drop into the 80s, giving us some much-needed relief from the heat. We’ll keep showers and thunderstorms in the forecast, with the best chances from late Saturday night into Sunday morning, followed by another opportunity for storms Sunday afternoon and evening.

Labor Day Monday: If you’re planning one last summer cookout, Monday looks like your best bet! We’ll stay in the 80s with a mix of sun and clouds.

Tuesday: More comfortable weather sticks around into Tuesday. Temperatures stay in the 80s, with a mix of sun and clouds.
