Quiet evening before heat and humidity return

Tonight, we’re settling into a quiet night with partly cloudy skies and temperatures dropping through the 70s. It’ll still feel a little muggy, but overall, not a bad night across the region. Most of us stay dry, so if you have evening plans, we are in good shape.

Wednesday brings a noticeable warm-up. We’ll start the day with a mix of clouds and sunshine, and by the afternoon, temperatures will climb toward 90 degrees. Humidity will also begin to creep back in, making it feel warmer outside. Most of the day stays dry, although an isolated shower or thunderstorm could pop up during the afternoon.

Thursday we turn up the heat even more. We’ll begin with a mix of sunshine and clouds before clouds gradually increase later in the day. Highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s, making this likely the hottest day of the week. But Thursday also marks the beginning of a weather pattern change as a cold front approaches. That will bring a better chance for showers and thunderstorms, especially later in the day.

By Friday, that front will be getting closer, and our weather becomes much more unsettled. Expect a mix of clouds, sunshine and scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the day. Temperatures will still be warm, but more clouds and rain could keep us from getting quite as hot as Thursday. A few storms could become strong with gusty winds and heavy rain, although the overall severe weather threat currently is low.

Unfortunately, the front doesn’t move through quickly. That means showers and thunderstorms could stick around Saturday and Sunday as well. We’ll have a mix of clouds and sunshine both days, with scattered rain and storms possible at different times. This doesn’t mean it will rain all weekend long, so don’t cancel those outdoor plans.
