Rain and storms linger with a major fall in temperatures

Tonight brings one more unsettled weather evening before we finally get a major break from the heat and daily storm chances. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected during the evening as the cold front pushes across the region. With plenty of moisture and daytime heating in place, a few storms could become strong to severe. The main things to watch for will be damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rain. The overall severe weather risk is low.

Much cooler air moves in Wednesday, with temperatures dropping into the 60s for most of the area. It will feel noticeably different after all the heat and humidity we’ve dealt with this summer.

Wednesday and Thursday will stay on the cooler and cloudier side, with a few showers possible. This won’t be the kind of soaking rain we’ve seen with our summer thunderstorms. Instead, we’re looking at occasional light rain and drizzle as cooler air settles in.

By Friday, things begin to dry out as even drier air moves into the region. Temperatures will start to climb back toward more typical levels heading into the weekend, but the big takeaway is that the heat and daily thunderstorm pattern finally gets a break.
