Scattered rain tonight with the heaviest bulk of rain overnight

Rain lingers into Friday

Starting tonight, clouds will continue to thicken as our next weather system moves into the region. A large area of rain will approach the region later this evening, with heaviest pockets of rain happening after midnight. The more organized and widespread rainfall is expected to lose some of its strength as it gets closer to Charlotte. Not everyone will see the same amount of rain, but at this point, we’ll take whatever moisture we can get. A few rumbles of thunder should be expected as well.

By Thursday morning, you may want to keep the umbrella handy as a few showers could still be hanging around for that early commute. We’ll continue dealing with plenty of clouds throughout the day, along with occasional pockets of light rain. This certainly won’t be an all-day washout, and there should be several dry breaks mixed in.

As we head into Friday, we’re not completely finished with the rain just yet. A few additional showers could pop up from time to time before this system finally begins moving away from the Carolinas. The rain is welcome, but it doesn’t look like enough to make a significant dent in our ongoing dry conditions.

Now, if you have outdoor plans this weekend, the forecast is looking much better! We’ll gradually kick out the leftover clouds, allowing more sunshine to return Saturday and Sunday. The atmosphere will begin drying out, giving us a much quieter stretch of weather to enjoy.
