CHARLOTTE, NC — The mother of an unarmed black man who was killed by a white CMPD officer says the killing has to stop.

Officer Wes Kerrick shot Jonathan Ferrell 10 times in 2013 after he says Ferrell charged at him.  Kerrick has a first appearance in superior court on Thursday.

This is what Ferrell’s mother says of Eric Garner and Michael Brown’s families:

“Don’t give up.  Don’t lose faith nor hope,” she said.  “Stand for what you believe in, because we don’t want to see anyone’s life taken this way.”

The first Grand Jury to hear the case declined to indict Officer Kerrick, but a second Grand Jury did.  Kerrick is charged with voluntary manslaughter.  His criminal trial date has not been set.  His civil trial begins next November.
