
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Freddie Andaya or ‘Raymond Garcia,’ 42 of Mexico, was sentenced to life in prison for drug trafficking conspiracy, money laundering and gun charges Wednesday.
According to court documents, Andaya was the leader of a drug conspiracy that opened in the counties of Mecklenburg, Iredell, Union, Rowan and other locations between 2010 and August 2011.
Andaya trafficked more than 300 kilograms of cocaine, a street value of over $10 million. He had a stash house in Concord where law enforcement seized 305 kilograms of cocaine, 62 kilogram-sized wrappers, $342,000 in cash and an AK-47 assault rifle.
A notebook containing more than $9 million in drug transactions in a three-month period was also found. Investigator seized 11 kilograms of cocaine, more than $600,000 in cash and three firearms, according to court records and Wednesdays sentencing.
Andaya has remained in custody since his arrest in August 2011. He was indicted in January 2012 on federal indictment charges and plead guilty to drug trafficking conspiracy, money laundering and possession of a firearm in March 2012.
Andaya will be taken to the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility without the possibility of parole.
This is part of a Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force extensive investigation that resulted in the conviction of 14 people for cocaine trafficking, money laundering and firearm violations.
Marlon Scott, Brandon Barnette, Juan Molina Sanchez, Bautista Andaya, Luis Castrejon, Vonita Mondragon, Freddie Delgado-Mercado, Levaric Johniken, Eric Feimster, Matthew Jones, Lloyd Allen, Christopher Coleman and Jorge Molina-Sanchez are other prosecutions stemming from the investigation.
The investigation was led by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Steven Kaufman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
