CLEVELAND (AP) β LeBron James scored 27 points with 13 assists, Kevin Love added 22 points and 18 rebounds, and the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 97-88 last night. The Cavaliers jumped to a 21-0 lead, but the Hornets regrouped and got within two points early in the third quarter before the Cavaliers pulled away.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β Panthers coach Ron Rivera says he’ll take a wait-and-see approach as to whether or not quarterback Cam Newton will play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Newton missed the second game of his career on Sunday after an automobile wreck left him with two fractures in his lower back.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) β Jahlil Okafor had a season-high 25 points and set a Duke freshman record with 20 rebounds in the Blue Devils’ 75-62 victory over Elon last night. Amile Jefferson added 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Justise Winslow had 12 points for Duke.
