Sex Assault Charges Dropped Against Former CMPD Officer And Wife

UPDATE: Officials say sexual assault charges on a former CMPD officer and his wife have been dropped.

According to reports, the victim was uncooperative with prosecutors resulting in a dismissal of the charges on February 21st against Reginald and Dia Harris.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a CMPD officer and his wife have been arrested on sex charges involving a child.

Officer Reginald Harris was arrested Wednesday. Β Investigators say he sexually assaulted a family member on several occasions between 1999 and 2002. Β Detectives say the victim was a minor at the time the sex assaults occurred.

Detectives say Officer Harris’ wife, Dia Harris, was also arrested for her involvement in the case.

Officer Harris has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations. Β Police say his gun and badge have been removed from his possession at this time.

Harris was hired in 1988 by CMPD and was assigned to the North Tryon Division.

Three counts of first degree sex offense

Three counts of indecent liberties with a minor

Three counts of crime against nature

Three counts of felony child abuse
