LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) β€” Rory McIlroy is halfway home to his second straight major title. The British Open champion shot a 4-under 67 that’s good for a one-shot lead over Jason Day and Jim Furyk (FYOOR’-ihk) entering today’s third round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. Phil Mickelson is just three off the lead.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) β€” Tiger Woods has missed the cut at a major championship for only the fourth time in his professional career. His 6-over 148 total didn’t come close to making the cut in his two days at Valhalla. Woods made only three birdies. Woods has not won a major since 2008, and still trails all-time leader Jack Nicklaus 18-14 in major titles.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) β€” NBA superstar LeBron James says he intends to play the rest of his career with Cleveland. When re-signed with the Cavaliers last month to a two-year, $41 million contract that included an option after one year, there was speculation he would one day test free agency again. But James said “I don’t plan to go anywhere” before an event last night celebrating his homecoming to Northeast Ohio.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” Former UCLA basketball star Ed O’Bannon and 19 others won a landmark ruling from a federal judge, who ruled the NCAA can’t stop college football and basketball players from selling the rights to their names and likenesses. That opens the door to athletes getting payouts once their college careers are over. In a partial victory for the NCAA, U.S. District Court Judge Claudia Wilken ruled the NCAA could set a cap on the money paid to athletes, as long it’s at least $5,000 a year for big school football and basketball players.

LOS ANGELES (AP) β€” Deposed Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has asked an appellate court in Los Angeles to block the $2 billion sale of the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Sterling’s estranged wife, Shelly Sterling, negotiated the record sale after the NBA banned the 80-year-old billionaire for making offensive remarks about blacks.
