CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte broke a 39-year-old record on Friday when 1.9 inches of snow fell during a winter storm, according to the National Weather Service.
Snowfall measured at Charlotte Douglas International Airport during Friday night’s storm beat the city’s previous record of 0.5 inches in 1983.
Officials urged residents to avoid driving Friday evening into Saturday, as overnight snow left roads slick and dangerous.
Icy roads in Charlotte caused over a 100 accidents in just a couple of hours, according to a report.
Officials say roads became slick quickly on Friday as rain made it hard to treat the roads and the temperature hovered near freezing most of the day .
