CHARLOTTE, NC — A Mallard Creek High School football player accused of raping a freshman on campus could be allowed back at school is he posts bond. Β 18-year-old Jonathan Neal is charged with second-degree rape by force. Β

If released, he must wear an ankle monitor and will only be allowed to leave home for school. Β A 14-year-old girl says the senior defensive end assaulted her inside the school at around 3:40 Thursday afternoon.

“The first word that comes to my mind is fear and concern for the child and her mother,” said northeast Charlotte resident Carol Wade. Β “And if something like that could happen, what could I do as a mother to prevent it.”

Neal also faces assault and shoplifting charges in an unrelated case.
