Β CHARLOTTE, NC — Some special students were recognized Thursday night as they prepared to finish an unlikely journey.

Project Lift honored students graduating from the Lift Academy. Β The academy is a non-tradition high school, affiliated with West Charlotte High, geared towards students who have fallen off the graduation path.

“I want to go back and look, like, I could have been one of these people who’s selling drugs, who’s either dead or in jail,” said West Charlotte Senior Khasim Linen. Β “But I worked hard and got my tassels. Β Now I can look back and just like, I made it. Β I’m not a statistic. Β I’m happy.”

Project Lift is a public-private partnership in CMS, working with traditionally poor performing students.
