Lancaster County School Bus Driver Injured In A Scary Crash Is Back At Work

The Latest:

Welcome back Ms. Judy! Beloved bus driver Judy Carter went back to work on Friday after recovering from an extremely violent wreck in late January.

Lancaster County School District officials say Friday is her first day back in over two months and she is happy and healthy.

Original Story (1/31/22):

LANCASTER COUNTY, SC. — From the moment they get on her school bus, Lancaster County bus driver Judy Carter says those kids are hers.

“And I will take care of them just like their parents will take care of them,” Carter says.

The 10-year veteran bus driver nearly lost it all last Wednesday evening, shortly after she dropped off her last student. A video shows the terrifying moments. You can see the bus start to spin out of control, falling 30 feet into the woods off Harrisburg road after officials say two vehicles lost control and hit the bus.

“Next thing I know, Bam. And all of a sudden, I saw debris in trees. I didn’t even know about a second car.”

Paramedics rushed Carter to the hospital. She is okay and is healing. The Lancaster County School District says this shows why they are concerned about the risks of buses driving in inclement weather. Carter says the community support since the accident has been overwhelming, bringing her meals and reaching out with kind messages.

“I am so surprised. I am so surprised. There’s not any of them that has not offered to do something.”
