Monitoring Monday Morning Commute
Wet roads will be the big story Monday morning, but sunshine and temperatures on the upswing take over for the remainder of the week.
For the first time in nearly a month, we have a weekend free of wintry weather in Charlotte. That said, things could get a little dicey for our Monday morning commute. As lows dip down near freezing overnight, an area of low pressure will develop to our southeast and ride up the Carolina coastline. As moisture builds in from the south, we could see pockets of sleet and freezing rain mix in with rain shortly before sunrise Monday morning. Impacts appear to be minor, but wet roads could lead to travel delays to kick off the workweek.
Expect the rain to taper off southwest-to-northeast by the afternoon, as sunshine returns to the area by the evening. Mostly sunny skies take over from there, as a steady warm-up builds in for the remainder of the workweek. Highs should return to the 60s in the Metro by the end of the week ahead.
Tonight: Clouds build. Showers late. Low: 32°. Wind: NE 5-10.
Monday: AM rain. Sleet may mix in. PM clearing. High: 40°. Wind: N 5-10.
Monday Night: Mostly clear. Remaining chilly. Low: 30°. Wind: NW 5-10.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Much warmer. High: 55°. Wind: NW 5-10.
