ROCK HILL, S.C. — A 39-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after showing a gun during a road rage incident in Rock Hill, according to authorities.

Officers with the Rock Hill Police Department were flagged down by a victim around 10:15 a.m. about a man showing a firearm to him around Dave Lyle Boulevard and Galleria Boulevard. The victim informed police that he honked at another driver for blocking the roadway and the other driver then flashed a firearm.

Rock Hill officers stopped the suspect vehicle near Dave Lyle Blvd and Interstate 77. When officers spoke to the suspect, identified as Cedric Alston of Rock Hill, they noticed he had a handgun holster attached to his belt.

Alston informed police that he spun out because the vehicle was a stick-shift and he stalled in the middle of the road, which led to the other driver honking his horn. Alston continued by stating that he leaned over to grab his dropped phone and believes the other driver saw the gun in its holster.

According to police, Alston stated that the gun was in the center console. Officers found a loaded black 9mm handgun inside the center console. In addition, police say Alston does not possess a valid concealed carry permit.

Authorities placed Alston under arrest for pointing and presenting a firearm. He was also issued a citation for driving under suspension, according to police.
