Β CHARLOTTE, NC — Another Republican is officially running for Mayor. Β Scott Stone announced his candidacy Wednesday. Β He spoke to a couple dozen people at Ardrey Kell High School, telling them Charlotte needs more transparency and fiscal responsibility from leaders.

Stone stopped by the WCCB Charlotte studios and spoke, in part, with Morgan about the city’s recent decision to settle a civil suit with the family of Jonathan Ferrell.

“You would think we would go above and beyond to be as transparent as possible,” said Stone. Β “I was surprised that we settled that, considering that it hasn’t even gone to trial yet.”

Stone ran for Mayor in 2011 and lost to Anthony Foxx. Β He says this time will be different because he’s not battling an incumbent. Β Stone faces fellow Republican Edwin Peacock in September’s primary.

Democratic City Councilman David Howard will officially announce his campaign for Mayor Thursday. Β He will face current Mayor Dan Clodfelter, former County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts and Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Barnes in the Democratic primary in September.
