CHARLOTTE, NC — A huge honor for a CMS theater teacher.  Corey Mitchell will receive the first ever Excellence in Theater Education Award during this weekend’s Tony Awards.

Mitchell has taught acting at Northwest School of the Arts for 14 years.  He’s also directing local theater productions.  We caught up with him Thursday night in Davidson at a rehearsal for Chicago.

“Every stage actor dreams of a Tony,” said Mitchell.  “And it’s just amazing to be a teacher and to have such a huge honor bestowed.”

More than 4,000 teachers from across the country were nominated for the award.
